Pujya Mataji Krishnabai (1903 – 1989)
“Consider the world itself as your home. That is the secret of Universal Love and Service. You must feel for others as you would feel for your own people.”
Mother Krishnabai, affectionately known as Pujya Mataji, faced numerous challenges in her early life, including the passing of her husband. In 1928, she met Swami Ramdas and became his foremost disciple, seeing him as the very embodiment of God. Following his teachings, she attained Self-realisation and a Universal Vision.
Pujya Mataji’s life epitomised love and service, becoming a mother figure to all in Anandashram. She dedicated herself wholeheartedly to serving Swami Ramdas and his devotees, as well as the poor and needy. Pujya Mataji viewed serving others as serving herself. She was the driving force behind the activities of the Ashram, guided by her perfected vision and unwavering love and dedication to her Guru.
Following Swami Ramdas’ Mahasamadhi in 1963, Pujya Mataji assumed the responsibility of leading Anandashram and caring for his spiritual family worldwide. Despite her declining health, she continued to serve selflessly until she dropped her mortal coil in 1989, leaving behind a legacy of devotion, compassion and service.
