About Anandashram

Nestled atop a serene hill on the outskirts of Kanhangad, amidst the lush landscape of North Kerala, India, lies a sanctuary of love and devotion — an abode of bliss — known as Anandashram. Founded in 1931 by the revered Swami Ramdas, affectionately called Beloved Papa, and Mother Krishnabai, fondly referred to as Pujya Mataji, the Ashram emerged as a beacon of Universal Love and Service.
The main Ashram and the surrounding buildings have a beautiful setting in the midst of shady mango, coconut and other native trees. Papa wrote that in the evenings it is a most elevating sight to see the setting sun — the red orb casting around a mellowed glow that lights up the Ashram with a particularly golden effulgence. The spot at the highest point of the hill is so fascinating that devotees who go up there are blessed with deep peace and tranquillity. The Ashram is principally a spiritual centre, which seeks to afford every kind of facility for the spiritual regeneration of the soul.
At the time of the inauguration of Anandashram Beloved Papa articulated a profound vision for this Centre: “The ideal which the Ashram holds before it is Universal Love and Service based upon a vision of Divinity in all beings and creatures of the world.” With these words, he laid the foundation for a place where every soul, regardless of background or belief, can find solace and acceptance.
Within the tranquil confines of Anandashram, Beloved Papa emanated boundless bliss, while Pujya Mataji embodied the essence of unity, transcending the boundaries of otherness. And in the humble presence of Pujya Swamiji, selflessness found its purest form, a testament to the power of service and surrender.
He was joined by the dedicated presence of Pujya Swami Satchidanandaji in 1949. Serving Beloved Papa, Pujya Mataji, and the devotees who flocked to the gates of Anandashram, Pujya Swamiji embraced every moment as an opportunity to connect with the Divine in all forms.
Together, they stood as living embodiments of love, service and humility, inspiring all who crossed their path to embrace the inherent Divinity within themselves and others.
Vision & Mission

Ideal of
Anandashram
In his inaugural address, Beloved Papa emphatically stated: “ The ideal which the ashram holds before it, is Universal Love and Service, based upon a vision of Divinity in all beings and creatures of the world. Here every man, woman or child, to whatever denomination, creed, or caste the person may belong, shall have free access. This is a place where every effort will be made to cultivate the spirit of mutual love and service, so that what is realised within its walls may prove as an example for the right conduct of human life in the outside world. The Lord is our help and guide in all matters. May He with all His bounty shower His blessings on the great service which this home of love and bliss has undertaken to discharge!”
Ashram, The Divine School:
The Ashram serves as a spiritual school where individuals learn ways of transcending the ego and expanding from the individual to the Universal. It is more than just a place to spend time; it fosters mutual love, service and contemplation on the Source of existence and the Great Provider. The Ashram offers a transformative space for breaking free from egoistic tendencies and embracing universal truths.
